DeFT Basic Maintenance - COURSE #0870

Course Length

5 Days

Course Description

This course is designed to provide the maintenance technician with the skills necessary to maintain the DeFT system. Training includes how to diagnose system malfunctions to the board level. All calibration procedures and limited hands-on troubleshooting experience to board level will be provided.

Prerequisites

  • Ability to read and understand English.
  • A.S. electronics technology or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of three months experience maintaining digital test systems.
  • Knowledge of basic Unix.
  • Knowledge of a text editor (vi or Emacs) can be helpful.

Other related classes include

  • DeFT ASAP Programming Training
  • ITS9000 Basic Maintenance

Content

This course will cover the DeFT system to the block diagram level and show how to diagnose system malfunctions with the aid of system diagnostics.

  • DeFT system architecture and specifications.
  • Overview of the tester controller and system status controller.
  • Detailed discussions to the block diagram level of the PCBs contained in the DC, and high speed subsystems and the diagnostic programs used to verify the status of boards in each subsystem.
  • AC and DC power distribution.

The laboratory portion of this course (approx. 50%) covers:

  • Physical location of hardware in the system.
  • Execution and interpretation of diagnostic programs.
  • Complete system calibration procedures.
  • Perform system preventative maintenance.

Goals

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • State the major function(s) of each PCB within each of the different subsystems.
  • Identify the power source for each card cage or subsystem.
  • Perform an orderly power on and off of the DeFT system.
  • Use of sysma to follow the diagnostic path.
  • Locate various diagnostic files.
  • Perform all DC, and high speed subsystem calibration.
  • List and execute all diagnostic programs and interpret their outputs to isolate failures to a PCB level.
  • Perform all preventative maintenance procedures.
